The Relationship| I can see you in me. Art versus Design
In talking the “ relationship” between Art and Design
they are different but two sides of one system. They cooperate.
Their relationship is similar to the relationship between genders.
Commercial design is like a person in a relationship
who with a clear understanding of outcomes
and with time constrains can achieve goals.
One may consider how to be a problem solver in a relationship
when there is conflict while can lead them into an enriched outcome
similar to the relationship between designer and client.
It follows a very logical and executive creative process
as a milestone in outstanding achievement, which is meant to sell something.
On the other hand
Art described a one in relationship who needs a area
to explore with no specific direction.
It might be more essential to be inspired to develop
a new character, techniques, and color schemes without any purpose or boundary.
Does it mean they different?
The prince of Pop art - Andy Warhol has the answer.
The quintessence of Andy Warhol’s art was to remove the difference
between fine arts and the commercial arts used for anywhere in life.
There is a reference to the famous Andy Warhol quotation
“ Making money is art, and working is art and the good business is the best art”.
Does the successful relationship between art and commercial design need to follow a rule
or pursue a good balance between them? The answer is simple.
It’s really a balance if you always try to see commercial projects
as creative as your personal ones.
Art needs to reflect our values and true self.
Everyone has unique values.
Somehow, sometimes there is too much noise and we lose track of what’s really important.
Commercial design really is a process of resolving issues surrounding our goal.
All the decisions we make help us to develop our inner values.
Good design is always around a simple concept.
The subjective focus of creator is to be concerned with the dithered between art and commercial design, the designer focuses on how to transfer creativity into the product.
Therefore, It is not worth which break down art and design into different kinds of work.
Gerald Chen| Faithful Dreamer transcends simplicity as much as design.

The New design universe exists in parallel to ours as the horizon of another dimension.
I chose to interview a communication designer
and part time artist as a example for my analysis.
This is a bright day to meet him in a coffee shop. Before meeting Gerald, I am quite
Interested to interview this passionate and ambitious, even driven- career man.
Gerald Chen comes from Singapore and has current work is as a web designer in Brisbane.
You have every right to consider that a communication designer
follows a commercial-driven process to satisfy his client.
You neither may nor value artifice consideration.
But then you see him simulate simple ideas from only a quick photo shoot of life
or hear who is his admired artiest.
and then you will come to see that his work always present the high value of simplicity.
It stands to reason that you’ll have no compunction in overstepping the simplicity mainstream
the root of aesthetic, to figure out that art is not only inside the artist’s mind.
He is a faithful dreamer who transfers a simple message into life.
The most important thing during creative process
is being like a kid with innocent eyes who intercepts happiness in life.
Because a kid always accept itself and the environment.
“You must let the voice tell you, you can’t be silenced.
Then you realize only to be simple is the right way to gain fruitful experience. “
After this, I am quite curious why he decided to be a designer.
Designs fulfills inner values and enable sharing with others through creativity.
An idea he mentions many times the happiness he experience when shares.
He sees beauty in life and he is willing for others to see it too
even if just for a fleeting moment.
As he shares with me, I can believe the key successful factor in being a designer
is how strong the passion is that you would like to communicate with others.
“ I consider myself to be a member of the creative class
as I seek to express my individual opinions and open myself to difference in the environment
for example this is the creative ethos of the Creative Class. Further more, I seek independence and flexibility that leads me to seek a project or job and hope my career will avoid stagnation to my creativity”
One can always find new ideas in every aspect of one’s life; however
routines can set in and we fall into patterns, and our life loses its dynamics.
Our lives it need the simulation of creative class. Gerald has this
when he takes off his formal suit and put the T-shirt on. He is absolutely the
Artist.
Travel, on a certain level is a process of transformation, and metamorphosis for him.
He has his digital camera recording detail of inspiration in his travel.
During his travel he become more experimental, spontaneous and uninhibited.
He took one shoot on a trip to Melbourne.

It is proceed with positive emotion along with the sunshine at its back clarifying the shape of the church. The subject is withdrawn, on edge and detached from the surroundings, which adds to the mystery of this picture and contrasts its delicacy.
He says
“ I just happened to look up and chanced upon the sun’s rays shining through the church”
As a viewer, I can see the pattern of his life is going beyond the bright side and strongly embracing the positive. He completes a deep dark color of the church by Photoshop, resulting in the church being influenced by the sun It evokes a warm feeling.

Commercial web design purse a target audience that likes some companies and Internet users. “ In my creative process will firstly conduct some research of resources to get inspiration. Secondly, I need to make a timeline of the process before show my work to the client. “Commercial graphic requires a clear concept to get everyone attention.
Here’s an example of a commercial poster.
Nano heart is a revolutionary system for people diagnosed with heart rhythm disorders.
This logo combines the shape of a heart and a top shirt pocket. A good logo must include the connection to the product and be an easy reminder for the audience. A naked man on the poster makes it clear that the heart is not real.
A sentence below “ Don’t judge a book by its cover”
This naked man symbolizes te truth beyond the garment.
The light around his body declares the heart.
In the real work place
he is trying to integrate his ideas and communicate effectively
with the numerous requirements of the client.
Q: The world of Design impact on art, or the world of art impact on design?
“ I think it is half and half. The good design needs art side of thinking
which lead you think outside of box. Art is broader which can enrich the commercial project. Therefore, Design make art in mess to market.
The more people interact with the product , the more people enjoy virtual
and spiritual impact from art. “
I ask him last question, do you want to create your personal symbolic?
What’s the concept you would like to develop? His answer impresses me.
“ If your personal symbolic stands simple
but it shows your strong stylish and personal spirit
which means it can copy and press to everywhere.
In the end, there are no differences between art and commercial design.
It is all present about you.”
It is true, being simple to yourself and transit it into design in this commercial society.
